Slack

Once in a while I don't feel like cooking at all. I am very proud of myself to commit to home cooking most of the time. Also proud to say I have not been eating fast food for a while.

My first choice of takeout would have to be Chinese. Hubby's choice would have to be pizza. Living in a small rural town has the major disadvantage of having non-authentic Chinese food. But sometimes, "chop suey" kind of Chinese food would do. Chop Suey Chinese food is a westernized-Chinese food just in case you don't know. For example, sweet and sour chicken balls, lemon chicken, Kung Pao chicken.

Cantonese Chow Mein
Sweet and Sour Pork

Cantonese Chow Mein is a mixture of assorted meat: BBQ pork, chicken, shrimp with lots of veggies served over egg noodles(which you cannot see in this picture since they are underneath).

My all time favorite: sweet and sour pork

Served over steamed rice is the best way to go.

March break is just around the corner and cannot wait to head home to Toronto to have some some authentic Asian food :)

  1. :) I didn't know "chop suey" food meant westernized Chinese food! Good to know. And you're right, sometimes chop suey food serves the purpose of satisfying the craving.

    1. chop suey in Chinese simply means mixture for stir fry. Sometimes it is interesting to know what other cultures eat and thought the "westernized" version is what they actually eat.

  2. Would you recommend Toronto to be the place for authentic Chinese food? Is there a Chinatown there? *ignorant*

  3. I live near the Beaches neighbourhood in Toronto, and the only Chinese food establishments in the area are what I call "chicken ball palaces", places which only serve westernized Chinese food. Terrible stuff! I was desperate one night and ordered some - my husband and I each took a bite and ended up throwing all of it out. I like going to Markham or Richmond Hill for Chinese food. Hope you have a nice, relaxing March break! (Let us know if you get a chance to visit a J. Crew store! ;-) )

    1. oh just too bad the choy suey restaurant near you is not good at all. I have tried many bad choy suet restaurants and hate it when their chicken balls are so " dough-y" and no chicken. I'm desperate to make it to a J. Crew store to see their new spring items. Hopefully I will get a chance and catch a few good deals there :)
