Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar

I like the new Korean gradient/"bitten lip" look and I have been searching all over for the perfect lip products to create the look effortlessly.

When I saw Laneige released a new product called two tone lip bar, I knew I had to try it. Laneige is not easy to get here in Canada, especially lip products. So I got mine from ebay and it took a while to be shipped from Korea and I am so happy I finally got it.

#2 Red Blossom

It comes in a sleek tube, with the top half a mirror reflection for easily touch up when you are out and about. Also has a little tab on the side. You push it down to push the product up and the other direction to twist the product back into the tube.

The shade I picked is #2 red blossom. I picked this shade because I want the dramatic gradient/ombre lip so this is perfect. You need two shades from the opposite spectrum to create the look easily.

The "red" shade is more of a cherry pink and the nude shade is more of a brownish nude.

To create the ombre lip, I want the red shade in the centre of my lips and the nude shade on the outer lips. Just have to position the lipstick(with red shade up, nude shade down) for my bottom lips and vice versa for my upper lips.

The formula is very creamy and the red is very pigmented. It does take a few tries to get the pigmentation right thought and it is not as easy breezy as it seems. I still have to use a q-tip to clean off excess product to make a clean cut edge.

Here is how I apply very light-handed. I was just experimenting with how it shows on lips.

A little bit more product and I had more product on my bottom lips than my upper. I did not smack my lips to even out the product and maybe I should.

From different lighting and the actual lip shade look much more pigmented in person than in pictures.

I applied to lips and smacked my lips pretty good to even out the product and it gives a very pretty blended color.

This product, in concept, is a genius one. One product, two shades, and off you go with a pretty ombre lips. In reality, it is not as easy as it sounds. You apply the product too much, the red shade kind of " overtake" the nude shade. It does not create the clear distinct line for that gradient effect. I still have to go in an fix my lips by using a q-tip to wipe off excess red shade. I had to re-apply it while I am out today and let me tell you, it is not easy. Wipe it off a few times to make it right and who has the time to do that when you are in a hurry.  I only have this for a few days and maybe I need more time to experiment with it some more to see if it gets any easier in terms of application.

So far, the easiest product I have used to create the ombre lip is the Maybelline Color Blur Cream Matte Lip Pencil(see post for review and swatch). It is a creamy pencil and you can apply where you want the product to be sitting exactly and blur it out as much or as little as you could.

  1. This looks like such a innovative product! Too bad to hear it's not as easy to use and is finicky.

    1. I am still learning to make the application easier to use. I find if I use a light hand, it is a bit easier. But still a challenge to apply it when you are out and about, especially if you want to create that perfect ombre lip.

    1. This is such an innovative product but require a bit of learning curve to apply this. I find if I use a light hand, it is easier to handle as the darker shade is super pigmented.

  3. maybe as you use it the form of the lipstick will conform to your lips shape and be less square-ish then itll be easier :) i really like the concept of this even tho it wont work well with me cause i have discoloration on the outer ring of my lips. the colors and the pink's sheen is really pretty on your lips too. plus if you get tired of ombreing it you can use a lip brush to apply one shade only :)

    1. the concept of this lipstick is just awesome but just require a bit of time to learn to apply this properly so I don't have to spend so much time. You're right, maybe as I use it more, it won't be as square and it would fit my lips better.

    1. I believe this is a relatively new product released earlier this year. Now that I have used this for a few days and more used to it, find application slightly easier. What shade are you going to get?

  5. What a unique product!! I thought the whole ombre-lip trend died out but this product proves otherwise!! Kind of cute to be honest!

    1. I saw a few other Korean brands have new two color lipsticks. So I guess the trend is still big over there.
