Stripes and Gingham

Besides the Silk Boy Shirt in Heart Throb, I haven't bought much from J. Crew lately. Yes, there are lots of items that I want but I think the prices have gone a little steep for these spring items.

very cute stripe sweater but for $120, I don't think so

Gingham shirts are everywhere these days. I have the perfect shirt in gingham and I love it. But at $88.......

So I started to look somewhere else while I was waiting for a sale.

Basically, looking for a white thick cotton sweater with navy stripes and a navy gingham.

So, here is my version, a much more affordable version of the two
Gingham Shirt from Pure by Alfred Sung

I got the boatneck top during one of the Lands' End 25% off promo. Regular price is $40 and I got it for $30. It is a very nice, thicker cotton sweater. Very soft cotton and well-made. I got it in size small as I mostly want to layer it.

I was at Zellers yesterday and I rarely browse their clothing department. But I thought maybe they have some J. Crew gingham lookalike shirts. Sure enough, from a far distance  from the cosmetic department, I spotted this shirt. Very soft cotton, 100% cotton and they are from the spring 2012 collection. So since it's new stock, doubt if it will go on sale soon. But for $24.97, it is not a bad deal at all. Comes in this blue and a light grey color. I got it in size small as well, which is the last one.

    1. Thank you. I think LE is out of the white sweater but they still have the navy one which is very cute too.

    1. Glad you like my combo. I love gingham so much, can wear it casually with jeans or layer it with stripes.

  5. What a great combination! :) I have a similar stripes boat neck top from LE which I bought during the Xmas sale. The stripes are of light blue color. I'll have to use try this combination myself soon. :)

Btw I feel that I have similar shopping habits. Which is like to score a great bargain and try to resist new items at their full prices :)

    1. I refuse to pay full retail price unless I'm visiting somewhere foreign and I know if I don't get it then, I would never find it again. Otherwise, I find retailers mark up way too much these days. Not in a hurry to get anything so can always wait for a sale. We're both smart shoppers!

    1. Gingham is so popular these days but I find them easier at men's department than ladies'.

      Thanks for dropping by!

    1. I used to be afraid to pair up patterns, thinking they may be too crowded. But to my surprise, the gingham mix well with stripes. I need more gingham, just hope the ones at J. Crew will go on sale soon.

  10. Great combination and fabulous finds to get the look for less. I agree that J.Crew prices are getting steep, especially for the mediocre product. There's only so much value in a pretty style, it has to hold up. Will your local Zeller's be replaced by Target next year? Have you tried Joe Fresh lately? I've found a few decent things there, much to my surprise.

    1. Yes, totally agree. So many cute items at the J. Crew March catalog but the prices are crazy for spring items. I'd better wait for a decent promotion before I bite. No, my local Zellers will remain the same. I only wish it would turn into Target. I have tried Joe Fresh and they are very good quality stuff and affordable. Haven't tried their cosmetics though. Have you?
